  • Comment: This is a really good start to the article and really excellent for your first article ever. There are just some passages that are not yet sourced and would have to be before the article could be published. For example, the entire "morphology" section is currently unreferenced. There are also large portions of text in other sections that don't have any referenced supporting them. Remember, any claim you make has to be supported by a reliable source. Add those references and I'm sure it would be accepted next time. cyberdog958Talk 07:16, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

COI Disclosure

[edit]

I am disclosing that I, the original creator of this page, have a connection to the AFA industry, as it's been my career and field of study for over two decades. My intention in creating this article is to share verifiable scientific and new genome research and ensure accuracy, not for promotional or personal purposes. If there are concerns about neutrality or content, I welcome feedback and suggestions to ensure neutrality and compliance with Wikipedia's guidelines. I appreciate feedback or suggestions from experienced editors. Exteacher (talk) 19:41, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Are you the same editor as the user Braintoniq? If so, can you declare no COI with the "Brain tonIQ" commercial beverage, which is formulated with algae? Zefr (talk) 19:47, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I have no COI with any beverage, including one called Brain tonIQ, which stopped being marketed or available since 2015. Exteacher (talk) 20:14, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Respectfully, that doesn't clear up why your first username was Braintoniq. I have now caught up with the username change from Braintoniq to Exteacher.
On the talk page of Braintoniq (now User talk:Exteacher), I left this message yesterday:
"Brain tonIQ" was/is a retail beverage formulated with "wild-harvested Blue Green Algae extract", a topic that you are now editing and for which you created an article on the Klamath Lake commercial algae product. It looks like a promotional effort for algae and maybe "Brain tonIQ" is underway. It was not a good choice for a username. Despite what appears to be your sincere effort contributing to algae-related topics on Wikipedia, the background is that a commercial beverage with algae in it appears to be your promotional intent.
I still feel there may be a COI problem with the "Brain tonIQ" commercial beverage, which is formulated with "wild-harvested Blue Green Algae extract"? That algae extract appears to be Klamath Lake AFA.
Can you clarify a) why you chose Braintoniq as a first username, and b) is Klamath Lake AFA the algae source for the commercial beverage, Brain tonIQ? Zefr (talk) 20:30, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was involved in the BrainToniq drink company, and one of its minute ingredients (less than 1%) was Klamath AFA. But that company folded in 2015 (I was no longer working there by then), and it's never been resurrected. My wiki name is a fluke, as I created my wiki account Braintoniq back around 2012 I think (is there a way to find out the creation date?). I called my account Braintoniq not to promote AFA, but just as a nickname. The drink's formula barely contained any AFA, it was mainly A-glyceryl Phosphoryl Choline and herbal extractions. My interest with AFA goes back to the late 1980s when I attended talks by the first harvesters on the lake.
My only reason for using this old wiki account was because it was the one still in my 1Password list of logins. I could have and should have started with a fresh name. I have no COI in promoting a beverage that was last sold 9 years ago. I don't want to promote any company or product, only the science around this microalgae. I do apologize for the confusion and deeply regret the distraction. Exteacher (talk) 21:00, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Noted. Thanks. Zefr (talk) 21:09, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
