Reports of death threats for a 2009 opinion
[edit]Anyone think this fact would be notable? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lingust (talk • contribs) 20:51, 8 January 2011 (UTC) Article blames talk radio for death threats with no evidence. Clearly a liberal hack created this portion of the article. The reference to talk radio vis-a-vis death threats should be removed. "prompted by several talk-radio programs, he was the subject of hundreds of complaining phone calls and death threats and he and his family were under the protection of the U.S. Marshals Service for a month." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.41.209.113 (talk) 18:00, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Assassinated
[edit]Is it POV to say that Roll was assassinated? — Rickyrab | Talk 22:33, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Nope, there is already media reports that he was assassinated. [1] --Þadius (talk) 23:43, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- It is. Most sources report this as a shooting, we have no confirmation of motives. If anything, it's more likely Giffords was the target. "Shot" is the most accurate and neutral word we can use. Trebor (talk) 23:47, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Roll wasn't scheduled to be at the event. He just happened to live near the supermarket and swung by to say hello; he was almost certainly shot as a random bystander. THF (talk) 23:55, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- I agree, I think the section should be renamed 'Death' - he wasn't the primary target of the shooting. GiantSnowman 14:11, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

"Simply to shop"
[edit]The federal indictment alleges that Roll was shot in the "performance of his duties," and a Giffords staffer that Roll spoke with says Roll was there to thank Giffords for her support for the need for additional judges in his district, and knew to come because he had gotten an email about the event. That explanation seems the most likely, and we shouldn't be highlighting the incorrect "simply to shop" speculation. THF (talk) 13:46, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- The speculation was reported as having been put forward by an aide of Giffords, someone in a position to know whether the judge was expected or just happened by. If better information has come to light, by all means make the article as correct as possible. Cheers! bd2412 T 16:55, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Ancestry
[edit]I see his middlename as MacCarthy. He is Roman Catholic so I guess her mother is a MacCarthy of Irish background. Can we have the name of his parents to explore family relatives in Politics or in Justice ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.176.120.156 (talk) 15:56, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
