Rewrite of 27 June, 2006
[edit]I am aware that there is a lot of resentment of Corbett's time at Railtrack, and the responsibility which some feel he has in the derailment incidents, but I was nevertheless shocked by the article's venomous style.
He has made a very public and humiliating apology to the British people and the family of the victims of the derailments. However, whether he was personally responsible for the derailments is not the point. Wiki is not the place for recriminations.
I have significantly toned down the bitterness, and removed references to individuals' remuneration and payoffs which I do not think are appropriate in a biography. It is now, I feel, more objective in the Wiki spirit. Ohconfucius 06:54, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Derailed
[edit]Please watch Derailed (2005) a documentary where Gerald is played by UK actor Ian Redford, then we'll see whos approachable. Everything the bloke touches falls to pieces!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.232.252.198 (talk) 01:26, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
NPOV added
[edit]This page has clearly been written by a Gerald Corbet fan. The Railtrack section is the worst, and easily warrants an POV tag, which I have added.
The article says safety record steadily improved under him as if oblivious to the fact that Britain's worst rail disaster happened on his watch - due to chronic underinvestment. While he was at Railtrack, the company operated a policy of "defiance" [1] towards the Rail regulator, which ultimately contributed to the effective nationalisation of the company as it was not acting in the interests of the public.
There is a much more NPOV write-up of the Railtrack saga on the Railtrack page itself, which I suggest is used as a starting point to correct the balance on this page. Fig (talk) 11:01, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
This ill-written "NPOV" has now been up since January. How long do you intend to leave it ? Have you examined the incorrect claim that Britain's worst rail disaster happened under Corbett's watch? Both Hither Green and Clapham were far worse. Do you know what "chronic" means? Chronic underfunding is a continuous and continuing phenomenon, not something that can be laid at the door of one individual, by its very definition. 3 out of 10. Must try harder.81.158.174.146 (talk) 16:24, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
