Map
[edit]Preferably I would like to see a map of the pre-1954 Domain of the Crown, unfortunately I haven't been able to find one on Wikimedia Commons. So I would greatly appreciate it if someone would create such a map, especially since the provinces it contained are listed in this article. --Donald Trung (talk) 21:45, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

Why not use Kinh?
[edit]@Sundostund:, why use the term "Vietnamese" over "Kinh"? The term "Vietnamese" is ambiguous and can refer to the nationality (as all ethnic minorities are members of the broad definition of Vietnamese people), Kinh doesn't have these connotations. Plus the sources themselves often refer to "Người Kinh" as opposed to "Người Việt Nam" for the ethnic group. --Donald Trung (talk) 04:54, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Donald Trung: As you can see, Kinh people isn't an article anymore, but merely a redirect to Vietnamese people, which serves as the main article now. That's why I removed the redirect, which can be undone if you see it as particularly important. — Sundostund mppria (talk / contribs) 04:58, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
Not all links need to be exact titles
[edit]Hello @Sundostund:, I noticed that a lot of your edits seem to be merely cosmetic which isn't a problem per se, but I noticed that in this edit you changed "abolition of the Nguyễn Dynasty" to "Abdication of Bảo Đại", but the latter title seems to be about the act of the Bảo Đại Emperor abdicating while the earlier sentence alludes to the abolition of the Nguyễn government system. When looking at the political framework of subdivisions the change in government rather than the head of the government seems more relevant, sure simply clicking on the articles provides more information but when reading the former at a first glance it specifically talks about the abolition of a government while the latter may simply indicate a change in the head of the government and be more (unintentionally) ambiguous. I'm not going to revert it because it isn't technically wrong, but I'm not sure if simply cosmetically changing the language actually helps.
For example, as I noted before within Vietnam the term "Vietnamese people" can also refer to all people from Vietnam while "Kinh" is more specific to the dominant ethnic group. This is also why redirects exists as sometimes it's more beneficial to use more specific and less ambiguous titles. --Donald Trung (talk) 16:03, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Donald Trung: Indeed – at times, great deal of my edits is purely cosmetic, including the correction of various redirects. Regarding the "abolition of the Nguyễn Dynasty"/"Abdication of Bảo Đại" issue, I get your point, and therefore I reverted my edit there. Yes, that event wasn't a simple change of the head of state, but a much deeper change in government, and it should be presented in that way. Regarding the "Kinh/Vietnamese people" issue, I still think that the main title, used for the article about the Vietnamese people, should be used here. But, as I said above – that can be undone if you see it as particularly important. I surely don't see that as some contentious issue. — Sundostund mppria (talk / contribs) 16:17, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
