The long list of defecting pilots appears to be almost identical to a different article. I am thus deleting the list of pilots from this article. Others can decide if the other article with the list of Cold War pilots needs to be retained. Vidor 07:25, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Definition of "defector"

[edit]

The definition of "defector" seems too broad. While there is a citizenship component, the most important fact in a defection is that the defector's country of origin and the host country are engaged in some form of political opposition (e.g. the Cold War). A person who gives up Indonesian citizenship to become an Australian citizen is not called a "defector", but a person who gives up North Korean citizenship to become an American citizen is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leask81 (talkcontribs) 05:49, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For example German: not 'defection' but 'defector' ("Überläufer"). See https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Überläufer / DocDdorf (talk) 17:14, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
