"Resolution 181 created Israel" is an incorrect statement

[edit]

Once again, Wikipedia stands guilty of gross inaccuracy and misrepresentation of the facts. UN General Assembly Resolution did not nor did it have any authority to "create" any state. As is stated quite clearly in resolution itself, it merely "recommended" partition of Mandate Palestine into a Jewish and an Arab state. Israel did not become an independent country due to that resolution, because that resolution was rejected by the Palestinian "Arab Higher Commitee" and the Arab League by force of arms, was declared "unworkable" by the British Mandate authorities, and hence never carried over to the UN Security Council for implementation. Israel estalished itself, against all odds, and did not become a UN member until it had survived the devastating war of '48-'49 (no thanks to the UN). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.68.95.65 (talk) 19:32, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
