This article was previously nominated for deletion. The result of the discussion was redirect to Steven M. Greer.
A fact from Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 3 January 2015 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
I put this up for DYK, and it's been suggested that some of the language used in the article is perhaps inappropriate. I mean this in terms of technical issues (is giving statements to a briefing of people from Congress a 'congressional briefing'? are they actually testimonies, or does that only apply to hearings?) - if anyone needs anything clarifying, or can help me clarify, or is interested in direct quotations in so much as I can give them, please let me know! When you jump in the waters of the fringe, even meeting all the criteria for inclusion, you walk a tightrope. PanydThe muffin is not subtle11:32, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@PaleoNeonate: it seems to have been inactive for almost two decades. A search in GNews for the last 17 years[1] appears to mention it only in connection with Greer in stories about Greer's activities. User:Panyd, you recreated it but I think it should be redirected/merged again. Doug Wellertalk13:59, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm at a disadvantage in as much as I'm using Nexis for my searching but given that they were granted their trademark in 2012 I'd disagree that it's been inactive for two decades! Stephen Greer and CSETI are rarely mentioned without each other, but I worry that a lot of the information here would be removed due to not being relevant to his BLP. but I worry that a lot of the information here would be removed due to not being relevant to his BLP yes that's a possibility. I've not had time yet to evaluate if this article should stay so am in no haste to merge/delete, but it was a constatation (I placed the comment as I discovered the old AfD and added the old-afd tag above). I recently tried to look for sources about the BLP and even there wondered if notability was lasting, so I started looking if there was anything more about CSETI and Disclosure Project... —PaleoNeonate – 01:58, 23 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Panyd: I don't see an obvious contradiction between not being active and a trademark being registered. In fact, Greer might have registered the trademark just because it was inactive and he feared someone would take the name. Then he let it lapse, so maybe he'd given up on it? I don't know but the trademark isn't evidence of inactivity or a reason not to redirect/merge. Doug Wellertalk14:18, 23 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Seems to be the appropriate thing to do. Discussion takes place there per procedure. 14:23, 23 July 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Doug Weller (talk • contribs)
