Beck didn't draw the cover for Four Color #159 (1947)--years later he painted a recreation of the cover art. The original was drawn by Carl Buettner.[1] Beck also did at least one painting of Uncle Scrooge Dgabbard (talk) 19:54, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding: "One of his chief topics was his objections to what he saw as the growing realism in comics art (versus the simpler style he had employed). Some see him prefiguring the exaggerated style most closely associated with Image Comics." (A) Who exactly are the "some" referred to? And (B), just personal expertise (original research) here, but I can't imagine what Image artist(s) are being referred to, as nearly all of the Image Comics founders were of the overly rendered style Beck criticized. Beck's style avoids hatching and rendering in favour of accurate, well-weighted minimalist lines. The closest to that among the Image founders would be Erik Larsen (of Top Cow), whose style is a direct descendent of Buscema & Kirby (not Beck, Cole, DeCarlo, Barks, Eisner, et.al.). On a related note, it was no surprise when Jeff Smith (Bone) was chosen to adapt Beck's Captain Marvel recently, as Smith's minimalist brush linework style actually does descend from similar roots as C.C. Beck's (although not directly influenced by Beck himself, as clearly stated by Jeff Smith himself in discussing his research process for The Monster Society of Evil), but despite a publishing agreement between Cartoon Books and Image, the latter really has no claim on Jeff Smith's work nor would the Image imprint normally be identified by that affiliation. 75.105.64.39 (talk) 18:33, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
