Source on Flight Number
[edit]None of the provided sources of this article, including the report, seem to mention the flight number (in fact one states the call sign was "Echo Echo"[1]), so I am curious as to why User:Global Donald named it Flight 706 when they created it this August.
This might be delving into WP:OR, but looking through BEA flight schedules online[2], the flight scheduled leaving Edinburgh for London at 23:15 (two minutes before this flight left) was Flight 5427 in both 1964[3] and 1967[4]. Presumably this would've been the same in between, including in 1965.
Whether or not that's right, if there is no source for Flight 706 predating this article, this article at the very least should be renamed 1965 British European Airways Vickers Vanguard crash or similar. ThatFlyingSquid (talk) 15:50, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- I agree, this is wrong and confusing. Flight BE706 was the BEA Vanguard crash in Belgium with a tailplane failure due to corrosion. That one was registered G-APEC and the Heathrow one was G-APEE
- NB In those days BEA used the aircraft last two digits as the callsign - eg "Beeline Echo Charlie", not the flight number as almost all airlines do now. Possel47 (talk) 16:49, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

British European Airways Flight 706 (1965) → British European Airways Flight 5427 – As I brought up a few months ago on this talk page, there are no sources for this flight having also been called Flight 706, while BEA flight schedules both before and after the accident have a Vanguard flight from Edinburgh to London departing at 23:15 (this flight left at 23:17) listed as Flight 5427. If this is not considered reliable enough, this article should at least be moved to 1965 British European Airways Vickers Vanguard crash unless there is a source predating the creation of this article referring to the accident as Flight 706.
