How tall was Tillett?

[edit]

I am intrigued by the Spy caricature of Tillett posed against a contrastingly tall John Ward. It appears the former was exceptionally short. Is anything citeable known about Tillett's height, anyone? He potentially looks a contender for the shortest male MP of modern times (not counting those who were in office as minors, pre-20th century).Cloptonson (talk) 20:08, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Was just thinking that. The photo of him with soldiers in Jan 1918 suggests that he was short, but not comically so as portrayed in the cartoon. Perhaps bit like Lloyd George, who, by the 1920s when he had become a bit of figure of fun, was often portrayed as a midget in cartoons (accompanied by pheasant and mangold wurzel sniggering at him). Napoleon would be a similar example: some historians insist he was of average height for the time, but he seems to have been regarded as a bit on the short side - this was exaggerated in British cartoons which portrayed him as an evil midget.
