[edit]His fastball exploded and his curveball danced. - Is it just me, or is that a little too flowery for Wikipedia?
NOTE: I've seen in a baseball trivia game that Al Downing is the only player who was active and in uniform in the stadium when Maris hit his 61st home run in 1961, when Mantle his his 500th homer, and when Aaron hit his 715th homer to pass Ruth's lifetime record.
