  • Remove third sentence because it's repetitive with information in History section ("Formerly a subscription-only service, Angie's List added a free membership tier in July 2016.")
  • Revise 6th sentence to: "In September 2017, IAC’s HomeAdvisor and Angie’s List merged to form a new publicly traded company would be called ANGI Homeservices Inc." to make it clear when the merger actually happened.
  • Update "In 2013, Angie's List had over 70,000 subscribers" to "In 2013, Angie's List had over 2 million paid members" (70K number is not correct). New source: https://www.indystar.com/story/money/2017/01/16/angies-list-boasts-5-million-members-growth/96633758/
  • Remove "In the midst of stagnated growth and after having passed an offer to be acquired by HomeAdvisor, new Angie's List CEO Scott Durchslag diversified the company's business to include the online recruitment of contractors (thus making the service a direct competitor to HomeAdvisor)." because there is no source and Angie's List was merged with HomeAdvisor in 2017.
  • Change "In August 2015, it reported 3.2 million paid members" to "In January 2017, Angie’s List reported over 5 million members," to update to the latest numbers. Source: https://www.indystar.com/story/money/2017/01/16/angies-list-boasts-5-million-members-growth/96633758/
  • Change "In 2014, Angie's List Inc. paid $2.8 million to settle a lawsuit alleging that it automatically renewed members at a higher rate than they were led to believe." to "In 2014, Angie's List Inc. denied the plaintiff’s claims but paid $2.8 million to settle a lawsuit alleging that it automatically renewed members at a higher rate than they were led to believe." to make it clear that the claims were denied in the settlement.

  1. ^ Normal practice is to have the information in the lead, which is essentially a summary, confirmed by information within the body of the text. In this case, the statement that the service was altered to a degree is also reflected and referenced in the history section. (See MOS:LEAD.)
  2. ^ Per the provided reference, this sentence has been changed to read "In 2017, the company announced in a press release that they had 2 million subscribers in the year 2013."
  3. ^ The sentence requested to be removed is grammatically linked to the sentence following it ("Additionally...."). If the first sentence is removed, the second sentence will not be grammatically correct. The beginning prose of the second sentence should be altered to account for the missing first sentence.
  4. ^ Neither of these sentences - the replacement sentence nor the sentence it is meant to replace - specify a time period that this figure relates to. Please specify what time period this concerns.
  5. ^ The use of the word deny in the context of legal cases can have two different meanings: (a) In court, a defendant claims that the plaintiff's lawsuit is frivolous by saying they "deny" anything occurred; (b) A judge issues a ruling in a case "denying" the plaintiff's cause of action. In this instance, the proposed sentence's use of the word deny does not clarify this distinct difference, which may lead to confusion on the part of the reader as to the ultimate outcome of the case.

Remove this part from "Criticisms and Controversies" section: "Angies List has a clause in their membership agreement that lets them hold on to your card number or paypal account and even if you canceled before they can automatically renew your membership." It is not attributed to a reliable, published source and it's also untrue. Thank you!

Remove this section from Criticism & Controversies section; not sourced:
"Angie's List states that they do not accept 2nd party reviews, however, this is not true. They will accept 2nd party reviews, even in a case where the reviewer had no participation whatsoever with the contractor or the work being completed. Their claim for 2nd party reviews is clearly stated and reviewer must check a box stating they are NOT a 2nd party reviewer before a review can be posted. They do not mention any exceptions, however, they claim they have an internal company memo, of which they are not willing to share."

Page name request

[edit]

Someone changed the name of the Angie's List Wikipedia page to ANGI Homeservices Inc., saying that the company "was renamed in October 2017." This is not correct, though -- Angie's List is still a separate company (along with HomeAdvisor, Handy and others) under the ANGI Homeservices Inc. umbrella company. Since ANGI Homeservices Inc. is a separate, publicly-traded company, I submitted a draft for it to have its own page in November but it was rejected. Can you please change the name of this page back to Angie's List? Thank you!

Pinging @Davodd: for their input on this (and my apologies for the ping if you're already watchlisted for this page). Regards,  Spintendo  06:35, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Angie's List exists as a separate article. This was moved to ANGI Homseservices Inc. because when IAC bought Angie's List, it merged HomeAdvisor into it, keeping both the ANGI ticker symbol and corporate history. The page renaming is common for such merger actions. But you are correct. Angie's List does deserve a separate article, just as HomeAdvisor has. I apologize for any confusion. Page Split

[edit]

This page has been split into Angie's List for the Indianapolis-based web service, and ANGI Homeservices Inc. for the corporate entity based in Colorado. Davodd (talk) 05:31, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your help Davodd, it's much appreciated! Regards,  Spintendo  06:31, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
...The page split happened in a way which fractured edit histories and fractured the GA page, talk page archives, and other archived discussions. My more detailed response is at Talk:Angie's List#Page Split as what I have already stated can be found there. Steel1943 (talk) 21:16, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
