Informal review
[edit]As asked by User:Vivvt i will post some comments that can be used to develop the article. It seems there is hardly anything that needs to be added more to this; but lets see. I might have some things which others would also like to comment on. Also looking at the inconsistencies in the Awards themselves, some things might come up. I also have doubts!
- As Vivvt aspires to take this to FL, i have one technical doubt. Is this list or article? It has lotsa prose which cannot be removed for merely calling it "List". Films selection & qualification, Jury and Lifetime Achievement award sections need these many words. In fact i am suggesting to expand them. Is it a list or article then?
- As the Lifetime Achievement Award (LtAA) is decided by all together a different jury than the one which deals with main 3 section (FF, N-FF & B), it's section should come out of the main Awards section. Or atleast the Awards section shouldn't begin with "Awards were divided into feature films, non-feature films and books written on Indian cinema."
- Do we know this jury?
- Jury section needs to expand. I have removed one-liner intro of juries from lede. We can write something about each jury member in this section itself. If its hard to get, lets decide later on.
- Also, the jury should not be listed in two lines. It gives impression that there are these two teams, whereas there are actually three.
- Doubt: Did Hattangadi head all sections?
- Citation. Why is it hidden? Old format was nice where one could read it. Here at first glance you dont notice something so good that is about these awards. Plus clicking so many times to show those feels like playing some game!
- "With six categories awarded with 'Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus Award)', rest are awarded with 'Rajat ..." Six? I can count only five. Is LtAA supposed to be counted? In that case total becomes 30.
- US$. Do we need them? $997.5 seems so odd.
- Best Film Critic's "Name of Book" cell is empty. Is that empty on all articles? If so, change in format would be good.
- Question for other experienced editors: Does a FA/FL have to have all possible links as blue? Here its not possible. We cant have one-liner stubs on non-feature films, producers, etc.

- Featured lists are required to have a lot of prose. See, for example, List of accolades received by Black Swan and you'll get a basic idea. If the lists are backed by a good amount of contextual and explanatory prose, the argument in favor of FL status becomes stronger still. ~*~AnkitBhatt~*~ 07:08, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
I went through the article a bit, and I am seriously unhappy at the quality of prose in the article. The writing, grammar and reading flow is extremely poor. The list requires a good deal of consistent work, and I don't think a single editor alone can do all this. I suggest creating a small work-group dedicated to this list so as to improve it, because in its current condition, the prose is liable to fail the list in the beginning itself. ~*~AnkitBhatt~*~ 08:08, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- As per my best knowledge on NFA, I would try answering some of the Qs by Animesh
- Dadasaheb Phalke award is very much part of main awards and is awarded in the same ceremony so we cannot take it out of the awards. Rather, it would be more logical to change the introduction.
- As of now, we do not have further information on juries. But then, there are four different committees; each for Lifetime Achievement, Feature films, Non-feature films and Books. Except FF, rest of them have one tier structure. Only FF is two tier where you have one committee each for East, West, North, South I and South II regions. Another central committee is also appointed to adjudge the recommendations of regional committees.
- No. Hattangadi did not head all the sections. Only feature films.
- There are actually six Golden Lotus awards. One not given this year is Best Animation film. LtAA is not part of feature films so we cannot count it in. (Though, by an observation, all the award winners of LtAA are/were predominantly from FF sections only. But then there is no hard-and-fast rule saying, others are not considered.)
- "Name of Book" columns is not applicable for Best Film Critic. Thats why it is empty. These two awards are clubbed together merely because both are Golden Lotus award. But then, Yes, its same in every article and we may need to change it across.
- I second Ankit on the pros. We need to work on it to get make it better. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 11:42, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
Comments
- The list isn't ready for WP:FLC yet. Apart from the prose, it needs a lot of work on style/layout.
- Lead must fully summarize the article.
- Table does not meet WP:ACCESS requirements; scope row, column and header, etc. needed.
- Most of the awards have one-liner description.
- Where is the jury info for Non-feature films and "Best Book on Cinema".
- Referencing needs a little amount of work. Eg., Most of the references are in PDF format. The format must to be mentioned in the citation also. —Vensatry (Ping me) 17:20, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
I have made changes for the WP:ACCESS for table and format addition for citation. Jury information is still not released from DFF besides chairman info. I will add that as soon as I get something on it. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 12:13, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Ceremony (new section)
[edit]The awards presentation ceremony took place on May 3, 2012 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The ceremony was presided by the Vice-President of India, Mohammad Hamid Ansari.[1] Other dignitaries present on the dais were Ambika Soni (Minister of Information and Broadcasting), Vinod Lamba (President of Film Federation of India), Dharmesh Tiwari (President of Federation of Western India Cine Employees), two Ministers of State for Information and Broadcasting, C. M. Jatua and R. Jagathrakshkan along with the three chairpersons Rohini Hattangadi, Romesh Sharma and Vijaya Mulay. The ceremony was hosted by Hindi film actor, Vinay Pathak along with Hindi television actress, Saumya Tandon.[1]
The ceremony started with showing clippings of the first full-length Indian feature film Raja Harishchandra (1913). Directed by Dadasaheb Phalke, this silent film had released on May 3, 1913 at Coronation Cinema, Mumbai. To honor this historic event, Ambika Soni announced that the year 2013 would be observed as the centenary year of Indian Cinema and that the National Film Awards ceremony would be held on May 3 every year. She also announced that for celebrating the centenary year a National Heritage Mission would be set up to digitalise and restore all audio and video tapes of Indian films. A Museum of Indian Cinema would also be inaugurated at the Gulshan Mahal, Mumbai before May 2013.[2]
The ceremony stood notable for being the only one where two films, Byari and Deool, won the Best Feature Film Award. Byari also became the only Beary language film to win National Film Awards till date. The acclaimed Kannada filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli received his twelfth National Film Award of his career.[1] This year, he received the awards for Koormavatara as a director. Acclaimed dress designer Neeta Lulla bagged her fourth win, this year for the costumes in Balgandharva. Also, eleven child artists were given Best Child Artist Awards for their performances.
Ceremony had live performances by three of the winners; Anand Bhate, Rupa Ganguly and Amitabh Bhattacharya, who won the award for Best Male Playback Singer, Best Female Playback Singer and Best Lyrics, respectively. Both the singers rendered their respective award winning songs, with Bhate singing "Chinmaya Sakal Hridaya" from a Marathi film, Balgandharva and Ganguly performed Bengali song from her film, Abosheshey. Amitabh Bhattacharya was accompanied by singer-composer Amit Trivedi for the song "Agar Zindagi" from I Am for which fetched Bhattacharya the National Film Award for Best Lyrics.[3]
- I have updated the wording. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 19:46, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Poster, logo, anything?
[edit]The infobox without any image looks so dull. I'm pretty sure these awards must have some official poster or logo. If anybody finds any such image then please upload to Wikipedia under WP:FUR, thanks. — Bill william comptonTalk 03:52, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
- I believe, it would be available with the official catalogue from MIB & DFF like earlier NFAs, which is yet to be released. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 04:25, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Copy editing
[edit]"Copy editing required" seems to be the main comment by all and i had few doubts in it.
- About capitalization: Should award category titles use sentence case or title case? For categories like "Best Promotional Film" i feel title case is apt. But for main categories of "Feature Film", "Non-Feature Film" and "Best Writing On Cinema", what should be used?
- Hindi titles of the awards are included in single quotation marks e.g. 'Rajat Kamal' (Silver Lotus Award). Is that okay? Or should "double quotation" or italics be used here? §§AnimeshKulkarni (talk) 09:30, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Quick comments on lead
[edit]- Odd use of "in the ... language", we'd normally just say something like "in French" rather than "in the French language"...
- "Best Feature Film" link the whole thing, don't exclude "Best".
- "the Best Non-Feature Film was" same.
- "the Hindi‐English" en-dash?
- " the Best Book on Cinema;" see above.
- "the Best Film Critic" ditto, or else "the best film critic" and link appropriately.
- "was also given at the event." perhaps "was also presented..."
- "The veteran Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee won it for his contribution to the" -> "won it" is clumsy.
- "for 59th National Film Awards was" -> for the...
