Some references don't support text

[edit]

The text that says the student campaigns are seen as threatening to organized crime is references to a Washington Port article which does not support the text. Has anyone bothered to check all of the references to see if they are legitimate? Damotclese (talk) 22:19, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The source says "Now, in places where bus companies and other businesses pay protection money to gangsters, the rules have changed." And then goes on to describe organized crimes reaction to the commandeering of buses. I think the phrase int he article is a reasonable interpretive paraphrase of the meaning of this sentence in the source. It is certainly not a misuse of the reference even if the wording can be changed to better reflect the exact meaning of the source with less interpretation.User:Maunus ·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 22:34, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pics adn maps

[edit]

Aren't there any pics of the accusers? Or can't someone get a map showing the location of the events? Nergaal (talk) 10:42, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Mendaliv: Thank you! I'll look into it, but I think Commons would be ideal. Cheers, ComputerJA () 21:17, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Draft assistance request

[edit]

Is there any editor here that might be able to help out with the related draft Draft:Raúl_Isidro_Burgos_Rural_Teachers_College(I should have mentioned the submitter translated an article on the college from -es --nonsense ferret 17:11, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • User:nonsenseferret: I can help you write the article this week. I am done with final exams tomorrow and should have more time to work on them. Just be careful translating the article from the Spanish article. A lot of the information is unsourced. I would recommend rewriting a new one in English. Thanks User:ComputerJA I suppose I should clarify I am not the author or submitter of the page, I was merely assisting the user with queries at wikpedia-en-help --nonsense ferret 19:34, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Title needs changing to "2014 Ayotzinapa mass disappearance"

[edit]

This mass disappearance/mass murder is refered to as Ayotzinapa, and those disappeared as the Ayotzinapa 43, by those in Chiapas, in Mexico and throughout Latin America, in the US, as well as by those pursuing the end of human rights violations around the world. Therefore, more users would be able to find the correct article in a search.

Additionally, the word 'kidnapping' suggests a different set of circumstances, where a ransom is demanded. This is not the case for the Ayotzinapa 43, nor have the parents of the students been contacted by those demanding ransoms.

Thanks for the attention. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 187.135.113.26 (talk) 21:30, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WP:DUE and WP:NPOV

[edit]

@Instone2018: Thank you for your recent updates at 2014 Iguala mass kidnapping. I wanted to let you know that I've been trying to balance out the viewpoints of this incident per Wikipedia's WP:UNDUE policy. The lead paragraph and the entire article should fairly represent all significant viewpoints that have been published by reliable sources. I've been following this case very slowly since it happened (and I'm sure you have, too), so let's try to find a neutral ground where all perspectives are taken into consideration (the government's and the others'). Let me know if you have any questions. MX () 13:29, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Instone2018: I'm reaching out to you regarding the claim whether the students "stole" or "borrowed" the buses. According to this reliable source, the students "commandeered" (i.e. take possession of something without authority) the buses. The students claim they "borrowed" the buses because they would sometimes bring them back (in Spanish, the students called it "retener autobuses"). Let's stick to "commandeered" instead of "stolen". Why is there no text in the subheadings on this article

Why is there no text in the subheadings on this article 2601:42:901:17B0:14E3:E9ED:AAFC:29AC (talk) 23:28, 18 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

First sentence

[edit]

In the first sentence, what does "disappeared" mean? Does it mean that they disappeared, or that they "were disappeared", i.e. a forced disappearance? The sentence structure admits both possibilities. Forced disappearance gets several mentions in the rest of the article, but almost always in criminal charges (and unless I missed something, conviction/acquittal isn't mentioned), so I'm not sure what's meant. This ought to be reworded for clarity. 175.39.61.121 (talk) 22:30, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't seem super unclear, but I did a minor rephrase to try to address your concerns. NickCT (talk) 14:25, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Title - WP:COMMONNAME - "Massacre"?

[edit]

I've read a number of news stories that seem to primarily refer to this event as a massacre. Has anyone done a survey of the sources to see if "Mass Kidnapping" is still the most WP:COMMONNAME? NickCT (talk) 14:18, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think the big issue is finding remains of the students. If there is not certainty they are dead, that they were killed, even if there is only the remotest chance they were not, you can't call it a massacre. --Louis P. Boog (talk) 21:23, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Update

[edit]

Have attempted to update the article. I suspect it is longer than the recommended wikipedia length. For anyone looking to trim it they might want to start with the Protests over education reform proposals section. I haven't come across any mention of this issue in all the reading I've done on the story. --Louis P. Boog (talk) 01:55, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
