Low Importance?
[edit]Hundreds of people, most if not all of whom were civilians, being senselessly slaughtered every few months in huge mass-murders, is never of "Low-importance." Never, no matter where it takes place on Earth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.166.126.122 (talk) 11:45, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- The importance assessment is about how much the article contributes to the body of knowledge for an encyclopedia, not the number of deaths. A Low assessment means the subject of the article is mainly of specialist interest to the applicable WikiProject. The number of deaths only makes this event notable because it was reported widely in the news as a crime. If nobody had reported about this crime then it wouldn't even appear in Wikipedia, just like the vast majority of deaths that occur around the world each day don't appear in Wikipedia. The question is how much does this tell us about crime and criminals, death, Mexico, organized crime, or serial killers? Not much that we didn't know already. It might help researchers identifying the geographic spread of the perpetration of mass murders in Mexico, but it doesn't really contribute much else. On the other hand, an article about the geographic spread of mass murders as a drug trafficking tactic might rank more highly. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 23:20, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
