Miami Hurricanes Comment

[edit]

"However, it was not a #1 vs. #2 matchup as the second-ranked Miami Hurricanes, like Notre Dame and West Virginia independent, chose to play in the Orange Bowl." First of all, the sentence is painful by having two concepts at once in it. Second, but more importantly, it makes a statement without attribution, which is the opposite of generally known knowledge. Miami WANTED to face Notre Dame for a rematch, yet Notre Dame chose not to. Not wanting to get into an edit war, but that statement, without a link, should be removed. Documentation that the Fiesta chose West Virginia at Holtz's request and not that Miami rejected the Fiesta, who never made the offer to Miami. https://newspaperarchive.com/port-arthur-news-jan-04-1989-p-9/?tag=notre+dame+miami+hurricanes+fiesta+bowl&rtserp=tags/notre-dame-miami-hurricanes-fiesta-bowl?ndt=bd&pd=1&pm=10&py=1988&pe=4&pem=1&pey=1989/

And despite the title saying both teams have no interest in a rematch, the article itself just shows how ND and Holtz did not want a rematch or to face Miami on neutral turf when their original win was suspicious at best.
