Tabriz County (Persian: شهرستان تبریز) is in East Azerbaijan province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Tabriz.[3]
History
[edit]After the 2016 National Census, the new city of Shahr-e Jadid-e Shahriar was created.[4] The villages of Esfahlan and Lahijan were elevated to city status.[5]
In 2021, Mehranrud Rural District was created in the Central District, and Meydan Chay Rural District and the city of Basmenj were separated from it in the formation of Basmenj District.[6]
Demographics

[edit]At the time of the 2006 census, the county's population was 1,557,241 in 423,775 households.[7] The following census in 2011 counted 1,695,094 people in 513,142 households.[8] The 2016 census measured the population of the county as 1,773,033 in 563,660 households.[2]
