Syed J. R. Mudassir Husain (born 1 March 1940)[1] is a Bangladeshi jurist who served as the 14th Chief Justice of Bangladesh during 2004–2007.[2]

Background and education

They are “The Taraf” and Sayyid’s family background, originated from Baghdad. Family resides at Lashkarpur Habeli of The Taraf’s since 1303 and Sultanshi Habeli of Syed Sultan (c. 1550 – 1648) Habiganj. Hussain’s family known as Taraf of Bengal, direct descendants of Syed Shah Nasiruddin (Sipahsalar of Delhi Sultanet of Sultan Shamsuddin Firoz Shah ) of 13th century Saint ( Conquest of Sylhet in 1303), Murarband Darbar Sharif, Chunarughat. Syed Shah Nasiruddin was born into a Syed / Sayyid’s family background in Baghdad, the son of Hasan al-Arabi (Hasan the Arab). Husain's uncle, Syed A. B. Mahmud Hossain, was the second Chief Justice of Bangladesh.[3] Husain completed his BA and LLB from the University of Dhaka.[1]

Career

Husain was enrolled as a High Court advocate in 1965. He was then appointed a High Court judge on 18 February 1992 and elevated to the Appellate Division on 5 March 2002.[1]

Husain was appointed assistant attorney general in 1977 and deputy attorney general on 8 January 1984.[1]

Husain worked as part-time lecturer at Central Law College, Dhaka during 1966–78.[1]

Personal life

Husain is married to Syeda Majida Khatun. Together they had three daughters and a son.[1]
