- 1902 – An antitrust suit is filed against Northern Securities Company, a holding company controlling Northern Pacific Railway, Great Northern Railway, Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad and others.[1]
- 1923 – Norfolk and Western Railroad takes delivery of its first Y3a class 2-8-8-2 steam locomotive from ALCO.[1][2]
- 1975 – JR East introduces Shiosai services using 9-car 183 series EMUs, replacing five of the seven daily diesel-powered Inubō (犬吠) express services that operated between Shinjuku/Ryōgoku and Chōshi.[3]
- 1995 – Union Pacific Railroad announces its intent to purchase the Chicago and North Western Railway (pictured).
