Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
... is a federal state in the northeast of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its capital city is Schwerin.
From a geographical perspective Mecklenburg-Vorpommern belongs to North Germany. It was founded in 1945 from a merger of the historic states of Mecklenburg (which made up about two thirds of the area of the new state) and that part of the former Prussian province of Western Pomerania (Vorpommern), west of the Oder-Neiße Line, that remained in Germany. In addition, it was given small parts of the Prignitz and the Uckermark, bother formerly part of Brandenburg. The state had its status confirmed in 1990 following German Reunification.
