In regional versions of the Hindu epic Mahabharata, Ahilawati (Ahilāvati) a was the wife of Bhima.
Legend
[edit]Ahilawati was the daughter of Snake king Vasuki. Ones Bhima was bitten by a snake so he was taken to the nagloka for curing him. Then there he got married to the daughter of Vasuki who was Ahilawati.
Folktale
[edit]Ahilawati was a Nāga Kanyā[1] (Snake-maiden). She was the daughter of Vasuki, the sacred serpent of the god Shiva. As per the tale, Ahilavati had been cursed by Shiva's wife Parvati for offering stale flowers to Shiva.
