Frima Studio is a Canadian video game development company founded in 2003 and based in Quebec.
In 2010, Frima was noted as one of the fastest-growing companies in Canada by Profit.[1]
History
[edit]The company was founded in Quebec City in 2003 by Steve Couture, Philippe Bégin, and Christian Daigle amid the dot-com crash. Originally, the name Frima comes from the French word "frimas," which is the layer of frost that forms around windows during winter. This is due to the fact that the studio made its debut in the poorly-insulated apartment that the three founders shared.[2]
Frima has notably developed flash games for many famous intellectual properties, including Harry Potter and Looney Tunes.
The studio’s initial focus was on casual, online and multiplayer games.
Moving to mobile games and multi-platform: 2008-2013
In 2008, the studio expanded with the acquisition of Humagade Studio, specialized in mobile games. Frima started to launch several titles on other platforms like PSP, PS Vita, and Nintendo Wii.
In 2011, Frima acquired Volta Studio and Virtual Concept Studio, specialized in high-level concept art and visual effect for cinema.
Expansion into full-development: 2014-2017
While the world was introduced to social media and Social network game, Frima started to partner on various Facebook Game, incorporating new elements such as monetization features.
New partnerships: 2016-2018
Frima Studio partner with IP holders and industry leaders worldwide. A long-terme collaboration just started with Epic Games on its popular game: Fortnite.
Business intelligence: 2018 and beyond
From 2018, the studio is working on its own business intelligence dates with the goal of understanding better the players and gaming audiences, in order to developpe data-driven games across platforms.
