Nice picture of a "Scots Hammer" being thrown but the thrower is only "warming up" or moving the hammer slowly. If this was a competitive throw his feet would be a) behind the wooden block and b) the "spikes" attached to his boots would be stuck well into the ground to provide anchorage. Turns are not permitted in this event unlike the "wire hammer" that is thrown out of a seven foot diameter concrete circle.
