Fireball Size Calculation

[edit]

Nice image Fastfission, but about the diameter calculations of the Nuclear Fireballs, this Website [1] has a "Nuclear Weapon Effects Calculator" which maybe can be used to confirm the sizes. This calculator give 3 different categories of Fireball size, but if we put in 1 Megaton we get...

  • Fireball diameter (minimum): 860 metres (or 2,822 feet).
  • Fireball diameter (airburst): 1,060 metres (or 3,478 feet).
  • Fireball diameter (ground-contact airburst): 1,400 metres (or 4,593 feet).

For the 20 Kiloton we get...

  • Fireball diameter (minimum): 180 metres (or 591 feet).
  • Fireball diameter (airburst): 220 metres (or 722 feet).
  • Fireball diameter (ground-contact airburst): 300 metres (or 984 feet).

This is quite a bit different than the values of 7,200 ft (2,195 m) and 1,550 ft (472 m), that you were using. Now I don't know whether that site is accurate or if your calculations are accurate, but maybe you should look into it. --Hibernian 18:16, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree that this image is not accurate; I think I indicated that on the image description some time ago. I haven't had time to revise it, though. --18:25, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
