The current version of the logo is displeasing
[edit]The design of the current version of the "contact us" logo (which has the Wikipedia globe at its upper-left, the Wikimedia logo at its lower-right, and has a stylized pen-quill drawing a line of writing, between them) is unpleasing, and demands improvement.
My reasoning:
- The Wikipedia logo is a three-dimensional shape, whereas the Wikimedia logo and the pen-quill are flat graphics; this difference results in a jarring mix of styles
- The signification of the stylized pen-quill, and its written ink-line, is difficult to comprehend; at first glance, it does not seem like a pen, but is remininscent of dragon's head
Perhaps the logo attempts to make a point, by using these elements. It may be saying, "By communication, we connect and strengthen disparate organizations, information, and groups of people." This assertion is admirable, and has my support. I understand the need to make such a statement. It seems to me that we could say the same thing, with an improved logo design.
I'm aware that my opinion is a subjective judgement, regarding the aesthetics of an artwork. Yet, I felt that it was appropriate for me to express this opinion, as my intent is for Wikipedia to continue to be the world's best website. I appreciate the work of the artist, and the resources invested, to create this logo. It is flawlessly executed, and has technical merits which equal or surpass the highest standards. My criticism is merely that its design could be improved. catsmoke (talk) 12:56, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
