This image is incorrectly labelled - what is labelled as the thick smear is actually the thin smear and vice versa. The error a reproduction of the same (surprising!) error on the CDC website. There is another image on the same site (PHIL) which is correct but shows an unstained slide. I don't know how to change the image, otherwise I would've done so. Cheers,

Blood film 01.jpg a thin film is the one prepared by use of a spreader whereas a thick film does not use a spreader , you can use the edge of a slide or applicator stick to make a thin film .there is interchange of description of both thin and thick film in this caption¿
