Summary
[edit]TV Engineers who were lost in the World Trade Center Attacks
A screen shot of the frozen picture as seen on the WPIX Satellite feed. It is my understanding that the satellite feed was microwave-relayed from the World Trade Center. It appears as if this shot was frozen by the Satellite Uplink's equipment upon loss of signal. If you look very carefully, you can see the shot was frozen not long after the second plane hit the #2 tower. The transmitting mast in the first tower was the primary broadcast facility for: WCBS 02, WNBC 04, WNYW 05, WABC 07, WWOR 09, WPIX 11, WNET 13, WPXN 31, WNJU 47, WKCR 89.9, WPAT 93.1, WNYC 93.9, and WKTU 103.5.
Six broadcast transmitter engineers perished in the attacks: Steven Jacobson (N2SJ) (WPIX), Bob Pattison (WCBS), Isasis Rivera (WCBS), William Steckman (WA2ACW)(WNBC), Don DiFranco (WABC), Gerrard "Rod" Coppola (KA2KET)(WNET).
I received several emails about the use of this picture, and I have no problems with the reproduction of this picture. I don't mind the picture being used, it is not my intellectual property to begin with, and I think it serves a special purpose. I believe it is the only known copy of this screen shot on the internet. I did receive email permission back in 2002 to use this picture on my website for the tribute. ~Mike Fitzpatrick, NECRAT Webmaster

Fair use for Communication during the September 11, 2001 attacks
[edit]Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws, and the stricter requirements of Wikipedia's non-free content policies, because:
- It is a historically significant photo of a famous event, the frozen image broadcast nationwide via satellite by television station WPIX for many hours after its transmitter lost power and was destroyed in the WTC building collapse. It shows the state of the buildings in the moment before power was lost.
- It is of much lower resolution than the original (copies made from it will be of very inferior quality).
- The photo is only being used for informational purposes.
- Its inclusion in the article adds significantly to the article because the photo and its historical significance is discussed in the article.
- The image presents a unique aspect of the Sept. 11 attacks and as such it is physically impossible to replace this with another free-use image. --agr (talk) 13:19, 21 January 2008 (UTC) with additional wording added by 23skidoo (talk) 20:13, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
