Summary
[edit]Screenshot of the message prior to a winfixer infection
Licensing
[edit]This is a screenshot of a Dialog Box popping up in Microsoft Internet Explorer on Windows 2000, which has very weak copyright protection, if any. To the extent that there are creative elements in the dialog box, their usage is de minimis, as the Windows elements are incidental to the work.
The text in the box is written by the authors of the malware software "WinFixer", about which we have written a WinFixer article where this image appears. The image is used to complement and enhance the description given in the article of how WinFixer installs itself. It would not be possible to illustrate this point of the article with a similar free content image, without copying the dialog box text. While the entire text message is used, it is so brief that taking a smaller portion of it would completely defeat the encyclopedic purpose for which it is used.
This is a screenshot of copyrighted computer software, and the copyright for its contents is most likely held by the author(s) or the company that created the software. It is believed that the use of a limited number of low-resolution screenshots:
…qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. | |
