    Español: Durante su estancia en Neunen entre 1883 y 1885, Van Gogh se centró en el estudio de la vida campesina de la región de Brabante. También realizó algunos paisajes, en los que es patente el recuerdo de la pintura holandesa del XVII y de la Escuela de Barbizon. Molino de agua en Gennep es uno de ellos. Su elaboración constituyó un verdadero reto para Van Gogh tanto por su tamaño, como por haber sido pintada enteramente al aire libre en el frío mes de noviembre de 1884. El protagonismo concedido al contraluz recuerda a la obra de Jules Dupré. Pero junto con Dupré, a quien Van Gogh parece querer emular es a Daubigny, quien en el Salon parisiense de 1864 había presentado un cuadro de 2 x 1 metros ejecutado también al aire libre. Sin embargo la distancia entre ambos pintores es notable. Frente a la pintura tonal de Daubigny, Van Gogh ensaya por primera vez toques puros de color que le acercan al impresionismo y anticipan su obra madura
