DescriptionView towards Halfway over the Great Central railway - geograph.org.uk - 1052337.jpg
English: View towards Halfway over the Great Central railway The former Great Central Railway was closed to all regular traffic by 1972.
The pylons in the background had recently been erected following a vigorous campaign against them by local landowner Sir Osbert Sitwell.
In the distance is Halfway which was still a Derbyshire village. Sheffield was still some miles away.
The Local Government Act 1972 soon changed all of that!
