This is not 1979-1980. Bandmaster is D. Keith Feltham. He retired in 1976. I find this picture a little unusual in that the Corps is wearing dress grey and not the usual parade full dress. VFMA dropped off in allot of way beginning in the 1970s--elimination of the long overcoats was one example. The band here appears to be about the traditional 56 member size, so I'd say 1970 is probably about right. After that, the band started to strink in size significantly. Don't mention that damned TAPS movie, would have made General Baker turn over in his grave. I was fortunate to have been there with General Baker, Colonel Feltham and all the others at the peak of the school.

I will have to agree with Brian on this one. The Band Director is definately CPT or MAJ James Derby, a fine man looking to get the best out of his musicians. Too bad the current administration does not feel the same way about it's current crop of cadets. Last Homecoming, the "President" (sorry guys, no "Superitendant" any more)wouldn't even sit with for photos for the special classes, and D Troop only had 7 (yes, I said 7!) horses! How the mighty Corps has fallen.

Dr Victor DeBolle, 1979JC

That is NOT Derby, give me a break. That is "The Duke". Stop it.

Victor and Brian: Look at the Glockenspiel, guys. If that was Derby, and it was 79-80, the man playing the Glock would be Keith Pierce. And Keith was/is black. Obviously not the case here. And those mentioning the numbers are correct. From 78-83 Band was only about 32-35 due to scholarship restrictions. Another thing is the Feltham was definitely shorter and slighter than Jim Derby.
