Summary

Description

This is the daily morning departure to Washington Dulles that uses a short-range 3-class 777. In the past several days, this particular airframe has been serving the route more than others, as one of the few unrenovated short-range 3-class 777s in the United fleet.

This aircraft was the fifth Boeing 777 built, joining the United fleet in September 1995. It is one of several United aircraft that have a special place in my heart; in March 1996, when I lived in New York City and decided to fly over to London, this was my ride both ways, running the Newark - London Heathrow route daily and being the first and only 777 service in New York City. It was my first-ever experience of a Boeing 777, as well as my first Atlantic crossing. This is my first-ever spotting of this aircraft since that trip.

Originally delivered in Battleship Gray livery, this aircraft was repainted to the Blue Tulip livery in 2004 or 2005, and repainted once again to the Disco Ball in January 2012.

The original nose number of this aircraft when new was 2072, denoting a short-range 3-class 777 with recliner seats and 6-channel personal video (and no air show) in all classes. The late 1990s United First Suite upgrade put in lie-flat first class and upgraded 9-channel personal video with air show, and changed the nose number to 2372. This aircraft will not receive the Suite Dreams updates, but will instead get an updated 2-class cabin, alongside N768UA, N779UA, and N210UA-N215UA.

Flight number for the morning is United 902. The second leg of United 902 continues to Munich, though a different 777-200, N768UA, will operate that leg; N772UA will instead run United 916 to Frankfurt.
