This is a section of railing is from the Japanese Pavilion at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition and the Paris Exhibition in 1878. Made of wrought cast-iron and designed by Thomas Jeckyll (1827-1881) for Barnard, Bishop and Barnard, this railing encircled the Japanese Pavilion with the sunflower motif popular in the Aesthetic movement and can be regarded as the point the sunflower motif became popular in the Anglo-Japanese style.
