English: Portrait of Private (Pte) Thomas James Bede Kenny VC, 2nd Battalion. Pte Kenny was awarded the Victoria Cross for "most conspicuous and devotion to duty when his platoon was held up by an enemy strong point, and severe casualties prevented progress" on 9 April 1917 at Hermies, France. Pte Kenny, dashed toward the enemy's position and killed one enemy soldier who attempted to prevent him from reaching it. He then bombed the position, captured the gun crew and seized the gun. Pte Kenny returned to Australia in October 1918 and was discharged on 12 December 1918. He died after a long illness on 15 April 1953.
