Summary

Description
English: Columbia launches on mission STS-9 from Launch Pad 39-A. This is the first Shuttle flight with six crew members: Commander John W. Young, Pilot Brewster H. Shaw Jr., Mission Specialists Owen K. Garriott and Robert A.R. Parker, and Payload Specialists Byron K. Lichtenberg and Ulf Merbold, who is with the European Space Agency (ESA). The flight carries the first Spacelab mission and first astronaut to represent ESA.
