Jacob Edward Strouse of New Haven CT was my maternal grandfather. The Strouse, Adler company was a thriving business until they failed to make a change of materials for corset stays, resulting in bankruptcy. He and his wife Jenny lived in Brooklyn NY, then after her death in 1948 he lived with his daughter Janet, my mother, and father in Woodside, Queens, NY. After that he lived in senior living facilities in Asbury Park, NJ. He died in 1963 at age 92. He also had another daughter named Lenore and three grandchildren, one of whom is me. There may be a connection to Composer Charles Strouse, but that has not been proven. Two of his grandchildren however, including me, have musical ability.
