Summary
| Description |
English: View along the back of the Stoa (porch or colonnade) of Attalos. This long building formed one side of the Greek marketplace (or agora) of ancient Athens. Stoic philosophers gained their name from their habit of gathering their students for teaching and discussion in the cool shade of such structures. The doors along the back of the stoa (to the right) would have originally given entry to a variety of shops. Although it incorporates a large amount of the original structure, this stoa has been heavily reconstructed. It now serves as a museum. |
