Summary

Description
English: Stereographic projection maps circles on the sphere into circles on the extended plane. The point of projection on the sphere is mapped to the the point at infinity in the extended plane; thus circles in the sphere going through the point of projection (as in this image) are mapped to circles through the point at infinity in the extended plane, which appear as straight lines.
