DescriptionStatue of Queen Victoria, St Thomas' Hospital, London.jpg
Central Hall. Queen Victoria.
Matthew Noble 1873.
Queen Victoria laid the foundation stone of St Thomas' Hospital in 1868, and she returned in 1871 for the grand opening ceremony. According to the inscription on the base, this sculpture was presented to the hospital by Sir John Musgrove, formerly President of the hospital. It shows a rather young and alert-looking Queen in luxuriantly brocaded robes with one foot showing on the little footstool. The details (jewellery, embroidery and so on) are very fine indeed.
