Description
Das Gemälde zeigt Sophia Herzogin von Liegnitz, die erste Gemahlin des Kurfürsten Johann Georg von Brandenburg. Wie ein zugehöriges Porträt Johann Georgs aus dem frühen 17. Jahrhundert zählt es vermutlich zu einer größeren genealogischen Folge der brandenburgischen Kurfürsten und ihrer Gemahlinnen. Die Gemälde wurden als Kopien von gleicher Hand ausgeführt. Die Vorlagen entstanden vermutlich um 1580. Solche Serien von kleinformatigen Fürstenbildnissen waren vor allem in Sachsen und Thüringen verbreitet.
