Summary
[edit]This is a Fair Use of an excerpt from May 1, 1942 Li'l Abner strip. Although this is still under copyright, inclusion here qualifies for Fair Use under US Copyright law because:
- It is used for a non-commercial and hopefully educational purpose.
- This image illustrates the article Salomey by showing villain J. R. Fangsley kidnapping Salomey. Being in grave danger is a not-uncommon problem for Salomey.
- Gives details of her status as the last female Hammus alabammus (with a zoot snoot and drape shape, no less).
- It is only a small part of the overall work, i.e. 25% of a single day's installment or perhaps 1/40,000 all panels.
- It should not affect the commercial viability of the copyright (IMHO it should enhance it).
- It is not replaceable by a free image, as it is an illustration of a copyrighted character for which no free alternative exists or could be created.
