Summary

Description

This is a full size replica built to a high standard in 1993 using NASA blueprints. It was originally named “Explorer” and was displayed at the Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, from 1993 to 2012, when it was replaced by the genuine Orbiter “Atlantis”. It was then transferred by barge to the Lyndon B Johnson Space Centre where it was refurbished and renamed as the “Independence”. In 2016 it was mounted on the genuine Boeing 747 shuttle carrier ‘N905NA’. On display at Space Centre Houston, Lyndon B Johnson Space Centre, Houston, Texas, United States.
