Français : Relief de tête de génie ailé provenant de la salle de reception S du palais nord-ouest d'Asurbanipal II ( 883 av. J.-C. - 859 av. J.-C.) à Nimroud (Khalu). Ce relief, scié en 1850 par l'archéologue Austen Henry Layard pour l'offrir au capitaine John Hope, faisait partie d'une scène de rituel de "Dévotion à l'arbre de vie" représentée au palais d'Assurbanipal II. Sans doute, gardien du palais, le génie porte une couronne à cornes, attribut d'une divinité appelée à protéger le roi de ses ennemis.
English: Relief of winged genius head from the reception hall S of the northwest palace of Asurbanipal II (883 BC - 859 BC) in Nimrud (Khalu). This relief sawn in 1850 by archaeologist Austen Henry Layard to offer it to Captain John Hope was part of a ritual scene from "Devotion to the tree of life" represented at the palace of Assurbanipal II. Probably, guardian of the palace, the genius wears a crown with horns, attribute of a divinity called to protect the king from his enemies. |
