Italiano: Maschera zoomorfa di forma cilindrica portata orizzontalmente sulla testa. Di forma cilindrica sono anche il muso (deteriorato) e i grandi occhi cavi separati da una cresta che dalla fronte scende sul muso. Sulla sommità della maschera, nella parte retrostante, piccole orecchie volte all'indietro. Il danzatore vede dall'apertura della bocca.
Le maschere presso i Mumuye della Nigeria sono possedute dai maschi adulti che hanno affrontato un processo iniziatico e sono associate agli animali della foresta di cui condividono l'aggressività. La loro funzione è quella di punire i comportamenti antisociali. Fanno la loro apparizione durante i funerali degli uomini. Sono portate orizzontalmente sulla testa. |
