English: Southern approach to Preston railway station, with train.
View southward, towards Wigan, Manchester, Crewe etc.; West Coast Main Line, ex-North Union (London & North Western & Lancashire & Yorkshire joint) section from Euxton Junction. This was an extremely busy section, with trains every few minutes especially on summer Saturdays; the fine array of signals controlled the six lines approaching Preston station. The Preston Docks branch went off to the right. The train is the 16.20 Manchester Victoria to Blackpool North/Fleetwood, headed by Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 No. 45336.
