Title
Post-medieval : Dress hook
Description
English: Treasure case 2006 T339

Silver-gilt dress-hook of three-lobed form, pinked backplate with the cusps engraved to suggest petals; three lobes made up of applied hemispherical bosses decorated with filigree circlets and knops. At the centre, separate element comprising dome-headed pin with butterfly attachment to the backplate. This secures, on the front, a small circlet of silver cut from sheet with hatched ornament suggesting corolla of a flower. Gilt. On the backplate, silver recurving hook and rectangular bar-attachment.

Approx 2 cm high, 2.3 cm wide at the point where the bar-attachment is soldered on. Weight: 6.4g.

This unusually large, complete and heavy dress-hook is of a common type, see TAR 2003, no 241 for simpler version from Firle, East Sussex.

16th Century.

As such, in terms of age and precious metal content, this object qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
