Summary

Description
English: The skull of ISI R42, a specimen which belongs to Parasuchus hislopi, a species of phytosaur. Image is mirrored from left lateral view. Scale bar equals 5 centimeters. Numbers indicate character states scored in the data matrix. Character state scores=
  • 10-1: External naris is considerably posteriorly displaced, but the posterior rim of the naris is still well anterior to the anterior rim of the orbit.
  • 11-1: External naris is directed dorsally.
  • 20-2: The antorbital length of the skull (length from the tip of the skull to the tip of the orbit) is .70-.76 times the total length of the skull
  • 28-4: The length of the premaxilla is more than 5 times its height.
  • 50-2: The length of the maxilla in front of the antorbital fenestra is .64-.76 times the total length of the bone.
  • 54-2: An antorbital fossa is present on horizontal process of the maxilla but does not reach the posteroventral corner of the antorbital fenestra.
  • 105-1: The posterior process of the jugal lies ventral to the anterior process of the quadratojugal.
  • 133-1: A depression on the lateral surface of the ventral process of the postorbital is present.
  • 142-1: The posterior process of the squamosal is ventrally curved.
  • 156-2: The ventral end of the quadratojugal has a strongly developed posterior expansion, overlapping the ventral condyles of the quadrate.
  • 263-2: The length of the external mandibular fenestra is .71-.88 times the length of the dentary anterior to the fenestra.
  • 266-0: At minimum, the height of the dentary is .05-.14 times the length of the tooth-bearing portion of the bone.
  • 269-1: A longitudinal groove is present on the dentary.
  • 271-1: The anterior portion of the dentary is dorsally expanded, taller than the posterior portion of the bone.
