| Description |
Paleopebble from the Mississippian of Ohio, USA. This paleopebble is derived from fine-grained sandstones in the upper Cuyahoga Formation (Lower Mississippian) in Licking County, Ohio. The Cuyahoga Formation consists of several members in eastern Ohio. In Licking County, Cuyahoga outcrops consist of the Raccoon Shale Member and an overlying, unnamed, sandstone-dominated member. The latter is traditionally misidentified as a distal facies of the deltaic "Black Hand Sandstone Member". The true Black Hand Sandstone is currently interpreted as a younger, incised valley fill deposit - the unit is genetically and temporally unrelated to the Cuyahoga Formation. The unnamed sandy Cuyahoga unit is here nicknamed the "Dugway Member", after the Dugway Outcrop in Newark, Ohio. This paleopebble appears to be silicified fossiliferous limestone.
