Notes The Vanduara, an all-steel screw schooner, was designed by George Lennox Watson and built by D. & W. Henderson in Glasgow in 1886. Owned by Mr. Stewart Clark of Dundas Castle, South Queensferry, for nearly 20 years, she was registered at 337 tons gross (217 net and 450 Thames) and measured 170 feet in length with a 24 foot beam. Sold to J. Mann-Thomson in 1905, he loaned her to the Admiralty for wartime duties as a submarine depot ship between September 1914 and February 1915 after which she was returned to her owner. By 1920, she had been bought by Mersey Docks and Harbour Board prior to passing into American ownership in 1923 when she was renamed Frontiersman.
