Summary
[edit]PNG release. this is an image based on an image from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electron_shell". source image is "share alike" licence. this adaption is not intended to be a final draft for publication. I am the author of the modifications and i allow the image's use on wikipedia.
this image is an example illustrating the contribution of S,P,D and F subshells. it can perhaps replace the lithium example image, after it has been improved by someone with good graphics software.
The electrons are highlighted showing the S/S+P/S+P+D/S+P+D+F phases of each electron shell.
originally i intended to make coloured vertical bars (simular to the S subshell), but required moving electrons around in the image..
It would be really awesome if it was animated, where the electrons go as they are added (is physically possible too, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen-like_atom)
